Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.) and Utah’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force share a common mission. Both want to save children from sexual exploitation and trafficking. O.U.R. is grateful for the many opportunities to support them to increase their capabilities of saving children. 2017 has been a very successful year for the Utah ICAC. Their efforts in Utah communities have resulted in many successes in their fight against child exploitation.

Support provided to Utah ICAC by Operation Underground Railroad within the last 3 months has led to the arrest of 7 more individuals for sexual exploitation of children involving the Internet.

Research supports that arresting a child predator saves countless other victims from falling prey to these offenders. ICAC’s expertise and hard work in the fight against trafficking provides high hope for people living in Utah communities. Those with an evil appetite to exploit and violate children should not feel comfortable operating in Utah.

A lot goes into the process of arresting child predators. Trainings and investigations have to take place first to ensure that operations go as smoothly as possible. O.U.R. has assisted the Utah ICAC Task Force to expand in both of these areas.

199 Investigations Initiated

Due to our collaborative efforts in the past three months, this task force was able to initiate 97 more Child Sexual Exploitation investigations, both undercover and not. In addition, 102 more CyberTipline referrals were able to be investigated. The CyberTipline is run by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). This is an online tool that allows the public to report instances of child exploitation including online enticement, child pornography, trafficking, misleading digital images, and more. After the NCMEC checks for immediate threatening circumstances, the referrals are made available to law enforcement. Utah ICAC’s involvement in this process serves a wide range of Utah community members and we are grateful for their outstanding efforts.

11 Trainings; 97 Outside Cases

4 more ICAC law enforcement trainings were provided for Utah law enforcement officers and 7 additional ICAC officers were sent to a specialized training. Providing further training for specialized task forces has an exponential effect. Just in the past 3 months, the Utah ICAC Task Force was able to provide help and support to other ICAC Task Forces and law enforcement agencies. They were able to assist in 97 of these cases. We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with such a hard working task force which shares our mission safeguard our communities for child sexual predators.

In addition to all this work, the Utah ICAC Task Force was also able to identify several minors who were victims of sexual exploitation. The aftercare process for these children is vital to their healing, and we are grateful for ICAC’s hand in providing these children with the essential resources to set them on that important healing path.

Joining together our talents, resources, and skills allows the fight against child sex trafficking to grow significantly stronger. Everyone is important in this fight, and together we can work towards the end goal: to end child trafficking.

Operation Underground Railroad thanks all the dedicated police officers who are part of the ICAC team. We are honored to support your efforts.
